I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Certified Yoga Teacher with over 7 years of experience working with adolescents and adults from diverse backgrounds. I have experience providing individual and group therapy services to individuals who have struggles with a variety of mental health issues such as mood disorders, anxiety, depression, trauma, and issues pertaining to self-esteem, relationship issues and stress management. I have worked in a variety of settings including a partial hospitalization program, intensive outpatient program in a substance abuse treatment facility, outpatient community mental health as well as private practice. I obtained a Master’s degree in Sociology from the University of Calcutta, India. In addition, I also obtained a Master’s degree in Social Work from Loyola University, Chicago.
My approach pulls from several theories including client centered, strength based and a holistic perspective, focusing on the relationship between the mind and body. I specifically utilize several mindfulness-based interventions such as Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, Mindfulness Bases Stress Reduction, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Yoga Informed Psychotherapy in my clinical work. I recently completed training as a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP). Somatic Experiencing is a body-oriented therapeutic model for healing PTSD, stress disorders and the wounds of emotional and early developmental attachment trauma.
I believe that the relationship between the therapist and the client is the foundation for therapeutic change. Therapy involves empathy, a nonjudgmental attitude and the creation of a safe space where you learn to break free of old ideas and patterns that are restricting your happiness. I strive to provide an atmosphere of warmth to foster unconditional regard and a deeper understanding of life’s problems.
Having immigrated from India, I recognize the challenges faced during life transitions. I value the impact of one’s culture and life circumstances all the while recognizing the importance of one’s relationships and sense of belonging.
I appreciate the opportunity to work with you towards restoring hope and building a meaningful life while providing you a warm, inviting space to be yourself.
